AT THE END OF HIS ATHLETIC CAREER DURING HIS TRANSITION TO COACHING, AFTER DECIDING ARCHITECTURE TOO CONSTRAINING, HE STUDIED AS A PAINTER AT UW THEN LATER AT PENN. JUST PRIOR TO RECEIVING HIS MASTERS (COMPLETED LATER) HE MOVED TO NEW YORK CITY TO START WORKING AND SHOWING INSTALLATIONS WHERE HE APPLIED PAINTING’S IDEAS OF PLASTICITY TO DETRITUS GLEANED FROM HIS BROOKLYN NEIGHBORHOOD. LATER HE ADDED AURAL ELEMENTS AND, CONSIDERING HIS PARALLEL CAREER IN ATHLETICS AS AN EXPERT IN RACING A MAN-POWERED BOAT THROUGH WATER, A MOVE TO SOUND FROM PAINT MADE SENSE IN TERMS OF FLUID-LIKE MEDIUMS. AS AN AVID MUSIC FAN IN SEATTLE THROUGHOUT THE 90’S, HE WAS FORTUNATE TO TAKE PART AS A MUSICIAN IN THE 00’S NEW YORK MUSIC SCENE. HE WROTE, PRODUCED, AND PERFORMED DOZENS OF ALBUMS TO COMPLIMENT HIS WORK IN INSTALLATION AND SOUND THAT HE WAS EXHIBITING IN THE CITY AND OTHER PLACES IN THE WORLD.

FRUSTRATED WITH THE NOTION OF MAKING A LIVING THROUGH OBJECT PRODUCTION, HE EXTENDED HIS WORK TO THE DIGITAL REALM OFFERING ONLINE (EYEKHAN.COM) ARTWORK FOR FREE BY CREATING EASILY REPRODUCIBLE AND TRANSFERABLE IMAGES BASED ON FAILING DIGITAL PROCESSES WHICH HE DOCUMENTED WITH GIFS, JPEGS AND TEXT. UPON LEAVING NEW YORK HE STARTED A BLOG OF “THE VISUAL” (GNITCELFER.COM) IN ORDER TO STAY ACTIVE IN DEVELOPING IDEAS FOR A FUTURE STUDIO PRACTICE.

JOHN IS READY TO PRESENT NEW WORK IN THE GALLERY SPACE UTILIZING THE ENTIRETY OF HIS REPERTOIRE OF SKILLS BASED ON A SINGLE DEVELOPED IDEA OF “THE SPACE BETWEEN POINTS”
